New families & food are what get me out of bed in the morning. I've got a fire in my belly for informed consent in the birth space for ALL WOMEN. And I’ve got a passion for empowering mothers to be present and engaged in the birth of their child, one of the most powerful rites of passage we have as women. My personal birth experiences were very different. My first was wildly disempowered, with things happening to me instead of choices I helped to make because I was unknowingly unprepared. I am still unraveling that trauma today. My second birth was tender and strong and courageous. I roared my baby out on my terms. That didn't mean everything went exactly as I had planned, but it did mean I was informed and made confident decisions with my trusted providers.
Before my passion for birth came into focus, I was a Registered Dietitian working in clinical practice and I felt helpless. No one wanted to talk to me or make eye contact with me because they were afraid of the judgment from a nutrition professional. And they didn't want to hear the restrictions I undoubtedly had to share with them. Well, I didn't want to give these restrictions either! I wanted to educate people on vibrant healthy nourishment and honoring their bodies before they needed to be in the hospital. I left clinical practice to have my babies, but in the meantime I radically healed my relationship with food and my body through the wisdom of intuitive eating practices. Weight loss or external objectives are not the focus of intuitive eating counseling. We work through a personalized plan to take all the rules out of eating to unveil what your body is telling you it needs! We also unravel the complex emotions, social experiences, and cultural influences that shape our body image and food choices. I love sharing this healing that I have myself experienced to set people free from the rules around food.
When I'm not shouting about empowered birth and intuitive eating from the rooftops, I am with my husband, Dylan, and my boys, Teddy and Vinny. We love all things outdoors. My favorite things are to forage barefoot in the forest, to spend time in my garden, to cook delicious food, and go out to coffee with my dear friends.
